Music is Calming
It's long been said that music can calm the savage beast, and now, researchers are saying that actually may true for your dog! At least -- slow, classical music, that is. Music has been shown to reduce stress in more than one study of dogs.
The Bioacoustic Research & Development Project, USA conducted a pilot study to determine the effect of external rhythm and pattern identification on dogs in a kennel and home environment as measure by heart rate. The study concluded that instrumentation and tempo ofclassical music can produce marked differences in results. Solo instruments, slower tempos, and less complex arrangements had a greater calming effect than faster selections with more complex harmonic and orchestral content. In the home environment, the solo piano at 50-60 bpm showed an average of 85 percent of dogs becoming calm, and over half the dogs went to sleep. Read the entire CBS story here.
